Farewell to Richie !
Time seemed to stop in Comer shortly after mid-day on Saturday when the news broke that Richie Lynch, Kilkenny Road has lost his brave fight for life at St. Lukes Hospital. A gentleman in every sense of the word, if Richie Lynch could not do a good turn for you then he certainly would not do a bad one. In local sporting circles he will be fondly remembered as 'Mr. Soccer'. He was a Comer man through and through, his playing career started with Marymount Utd. ; Castlecomer Utd ; Comer Rovers ; and finally Deen Celtic. In all he gave over three decades of service as a player, mentor and administrator. The wonderful facilities at the Prince Grounds will remain as a legacy to him eternally. No one worked harder or gave more time, energy and commitment towards the provision of those top class facilities than he. If you want a job done then ask a busy man, well the call came frequently but no matter who was in trouble Richie was always there when the going got tough.
Initially he worked in Comer International where he was regarded as one of the best Training Instructors. When the factory closed down he took up employment in the building industry locally with Kelly Contractors and latterly in Kilkenny. Kind and generous of both his time and advice, nothing was more pleasing to him than to see his beloved Deen Celtic on the brink of landing their first Kilkenny & District League Premier Crown and also to see three of his sons David, Robbie and Richie (Jnr) be part of the team.
He is survived by his wife Carmel ; sons Derek, David, Robbie, Richie (Jnr) ; brother Jerry (Athy) ; sisters Marie, Annette ; Grandchildren Aine, Ronan ; other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
